Jack Barry FC vs Boroughs United

20151213_102254

A hat-trick for Scott Pond, a penalty dispatched by club skipper Dayo and an own goal ensured that Boroughs kept the pressure on league leaders Stepney FC. Boroughs played well throughout the game. Stand in goal keeper Abraham was barely tested. Boroughs had way too much for the Jack Barry who played the first 20 minutes with 10 men. Their 11th man eventually came on but made no difference to what was an easy win for Boroughs.

The man of the match as voted for by the players was Scott Pond. A second award in as many weeks. Scott finishing was clinical and has earned him the award again.

Boroughs United new away kit!

Boroughs United have their eyes set on the Jack Moran cup. They missed out on a chance to lift the cup last year in a game that ended in a penalty shoot out. Objectives for this season was clear, to reach the final again and lift the trophy. So every team in our path would be taken very seriously, first up was Bow badgers from the 4th Division.

Boroughs were against the wind in the first half, they probed well and created a few chances in the early exchanges. Bow took the lead as Boroughs defender Emeka did not properly clear a looping ball from the opposition keeper. The ball fell into the path of the striker who tucked it into the corner. Boroughs were not behind for long. Scott Pond getting his second goal of the season, equalised for Boroughs. Romeo gave Boroughs the lead not long after. 1-2 Half time.

In the second half Boroughs were playing with the wind on their side. Bow pressed well and created a few good chances but some great saves from stand in keeper Twista kept them at bay. A further two goals for Boroughs, one for Keeron and another for Pond. Full-time score 1-4.

Man of the match as voted by the players goes to Scott Pond. He was a danger to the opposition with his strength and pace.

Boroughs United FC vs BKT FC

It’s cup season at Marshes and Boroughs first round game for the Jack Walpole cup was against division 3 side Beckton. Playing at the south marsh is something all teams want to avoid on days like this. The rain from the night before had made parts of the pitch very muddy. The privilege of playing on the nice, clean pitches at the East marsh goes to the premier and division 1 teams.

After the one minute silence in respect to for remembrance day, both team were eager and ready to go.  Boroughs failed to keep the ball and had no flow to their game. Attitudes and fight was something that was missing from their game. A misunderstanding at the back led to Beckton scoring the opener.  That was the worst half Boroughs had played this season. If they were playing a team with better quality the score after the first half might have been more.

After the team talk, a new attitude and desire was translated unto the pitch. Boroughs came out with purpose and were fighting for the ball with more intent. The equaliser was scored by Frost, a well taken goal to bring Borough back into the game. BKT’s lead was quickly restored soon after as Boroughs failed to clear their lines, a great shot by the CM flew into the bottom right. Charlie almost got his fingers on it but could not stop it. With 15 minutes to plays boroughs had to dig deep if they were to stay in the cup.

With 5 minutes to go Emeka changed it to 3-5-2. An all or nothing approach as boroughs chased for the equaliser. Moments later an attack on the right led to the ball being looped in the air at the edge of the box. Emeka placed the ball into the right corner. 2-2, with 3 minutes to go.

Moments later  Boroughs broke again and Scott Pond blasted the ball into the back of the net with a great left footed strike. Final score 3-2.

Man of the match as voted for by the players this week was John Oyedokun. A consistent performer who works hard for the team. A good all round performance from the winger.

Boroughs United FC vs FC Stepney

A game both teams have been anticipating. The extreme foggy condition was not going to stop this game from happening. FC Stepney started the game with higher intensity. They pressed well and did not allow Boroughs to get time on the ball. They fast pace tactics worked as they took an early lead.  Boroughs took a while to get in the game as Stepney could not sustain their intensity. With more fluidity Boroughs started to penetrate the oppositions defence. Boroughs soon equalised as a cross came in and Jason stayed composed to place it in the back of the net.

Stepney took the lead again, with some sloppy defending by boroughs. This goal came against the run of play as boroughs had them pegged back. Just before half time, Dayo picked of the ball in the middle of the park. He took a shot from 25 yards which flew into the top left corner. A great goal by the skipper.

First half score 2-2.

Second half the game was more on the balance as both sides looked dangerous. Eventually boroughs took the lead. A goal by Frost. With just 8 minutes to go, boroughs conceded a late controversial penalty. Final score 3-3.

The draw felt like a defeat as the team were so close to moving back to the top of the table.

Man of the match as voted for by the players this week will go to two players. Both players received the exact same number of votes. Dayo Ayantuga and Jason Fevrier. Both players had a solid game and both contributed with good goals.

Boroughs vs BG United

Boroughs love to do things the hard way at times, so it proved in this game. Boroughs were very sharp at the start of the game, they pressed well and kept the ball well. Boroughs dominated possession, as BG tried their luck by launching the ball far and high. Against the run of play BG took the lead, a deep free-kick was then converted into his own goal by Boroughs new signing Ryan. A mistake of not pushing the line high enough. Borough regained their composure and equalised as BG also had their own man head the ball into the back the net.. Boroughs wasted no time and took the lead soon after by a great team goal which was finished off by Frost. 2-1 at half time.

Boroughs were in no mood to be complacent, with goals from Frost and John, Boroughs were now cruising 4-1. BG had their keeper sent off for foul language towards the ref. The last 30 minutes is something boroughs would like to forget, not before they learn from it. Complacency crept in and BG found 2 goals to give it a nervy finish. A great save from vice skipper Charlie made sure Boroughs took home all 3 points. 4-3 final score.

Man of the match as voted for by the players was John. He has been away in Australia for 3 weeks and this was his first game back. A very strong performance on the wing and always willing to do his part when he does not have the ball.

Match day picture for 18th October 2015 (Birkbeck Orient B vs Boroughs United FC

Start of the new month and Boroughs were eager to hit some sort of consistent form. A staggered start to season so far, October 4th and the opponents in the waiting were relegated division one side Jay Cubed. As usual 3 points were up for grabs. Things did not start right for boroughs as they seemed of their game in the opening exchanges. Jay cubed eventually took the lead as boroughs failed to clear their lines. Soon after a disagreement brewed between several players from the two sides which ultimately resulted in the sending off of  Scott Pond. With ten men it was always going to be an up hill battle. Jay cubed ended the half scoring a further two goals to increase their lead to 3-0. Boroughs came out fighting in the second half but could not manage a comeback.

11th Oct- The following week an old rival in Top red were the opponents. A must win game. 3 points was all that mattered. Boroughs started strong and were on the front foot. Boroughs went on to win the game 4-2. Goals from Denzle, Twista, and two from Frost.

18th Oct- The most recent game was the first cup game of the season for boroughs. Birkbeck Orient B were the opponents. The team wanted to keep up the momentum on the great result they had the from the previous week. The team played some good football, making it hard for Orient to get a hold of the ball. The deadlock was quickly broken within the first 10 minutes by Romeo. The first half score was 5-0. In the second half boroughs lost their intensity but still managed to keep a clean sheet and score another two goals. A very one sided game. David Frost scored a hattrick, Denzle scored two and twista scored one. Final score 7-0.

Our Man of the match system has now started again. This weeks (18th Oct) man of the match as voted for by all the players was Abraham Udofia (Twista). A strong addition to the team, a vocal member of the squad. A strong all around performance.

Pre-season, 2015/16 Season

Our pre-season started in late July. Training was based on mainly getting our fitness back after a few weeks off. We had a mixture of results in the pre season games we played, lost 2 won 2 and drew 1. The most important thing was preparing properly for the start of the season. It was not the best pre season as many players were away on holiday and things felt disjointed at times. We made the best of it as a unit.

A few players got married, big congratulation to Leonard and Charlie. We wish you both a very happy married life. We hope the Mrs’ will continue to allow you guys to be play. Rumour would have it that many guys around the marshes are handing their retirement letters because their wives want more time in the weekend. I hope to keep you guys as long as possible.

The league kicked off on the 6th of September, Boroughs vs City flyers was the only fixture in the second division. Boroughs dominated the game but failed to put away their chances, the defence was also poor that day. City took their chances well. The final score was Boroughs 2 City 3. A disappointing start to the season against a potential title rival.

There was no time to feel sorry for ourselves, the team knew they had to bounce back. They did just that in the second fixture against Hacimac. Boroughs again dominated and won the game 2-1. It was now time to build some momentum. The 3rd game was repeat of the Jack Morgan cup final back in April. Boroughs vs Delta Athletic. Borough thought they deserved to win that final in normal time but were forced to penalties and eventually lost 4-1. A strong performance from the whole team saw Boroughs win 3-0 convincingly to push them to the top of the table with 6 points.
